Keep on Working
Matt Meighan
You might like to look at mountains or waterfalls or fountains
Or watch the wild birds wheeling through the air
You’ll see it all much better once you climb that ladder
There’s a great view of the parking lot up there
Well I’m no complainer – my job is a no-brainer
And on this team that’s how I’ve got to play
If I give ‘em good production and survive the force reduction
I might get a window seat some day
That’s why I’m working, I got to keep on working
I keep on working night and day
There’s bound to be a payoff if I survive the layoff
That's why I'm working night and day
Me and my lover, we have lots of time together
During my vacation every May
But I’ve got debts to work off so for now I guess I’ll
Keep on working night and day
Yeah I'm still working, I got to keep on working
I keep on working night and day
If my love life’s uninspired, well at night I’m pretty tired
But I keep working night and day
It’s real hard to take a day off with student loans to payoff
And the kids might need a doctor one of these days
No doctor wants to cure you if the bosses don’t insure you
So I keep working night and day
That's why I'm working, I got to keep on working
Keep on working night and day
I might like to see my kid and hear about stuff she did
But I'm too busy working night and day
It ain't personal – it’s business. Like when Judas gave Christ a kiss
There’s things you’ve got to do to earn your pay
If you want to get stuff that’s nice it’s going to take a little bit of sacrifice
So keep on working night and day
Well I was sunk in sorrow, I didn’t want to face tomorrow
I knew I had to find a better way
So the doc put me on prozak I got my get up and go back
To go back to working night and day
And now I'm back to working, I'm really happy working
I keep on working night and day
If you need someone to hug you, no problem, they’ll just drug you
To keep you working night and day
Well, the bosses shut the plant down; they yanked it out of our town
They took it where the workers get less pay
They got a great big bonus for making workers homeless
Now we’re not working anyway
So keep on working, everybody keep on working,
Keep on working night and day
Just push that big wheel 'round till they lay you in the ground
Keep on working night and day
