Authentic Songwriting
Dedicated to each writer developing their authentic voice and communicating their unique experience.
We'll explore ways to connect to the songs inside you and cultivate trust in the power of your voice to give
them a shape in the world.
Classes include group writing, song sharing, generous listening, and discussion of aspects
of the songwriting journey. Each class will include a song prompt with the goal of trying to write a song
before the next class. Participants share a song each week in breakout groups.
We'll listen generously and appreciatively to one another and create an inspiring, critique-free, non-judgmental space
in which to deepen songwriting practice. Songwriters of all levels of experience welcome.

Songwriting as Truth-Telling
Dedicated to each writer developing their own voice and sharing their unique perspective.
We'll write, share and listen to songs and explore songwriting as human communication and connection.
Each participant shares a song each week, with the goal of trying to write a song each week. Songs by someone else, fragments, poems, and older songs are equally welcome.
We'll listen generously and appreciatively creating an inspiring, critique-free, non-judgmental space in which to deepen songwriting practice. Songwriters of all levels of experience welcome.

About Matt Meighan
Matt Meighan lives in Portland, Oregon where he has taught his weekly Songwriting as Truth-Telling class since 2009.
He
hosts the annual Hidden River Songwriting Camp on the Long Beach, Washington
peninsula each July and an annual week-long songwriting retreat in Donegal, Ireland.
Matt studied poetry at the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics (Naropa University) in Boulder, Colorado, where he earned an MFA in writing and poetics.
